FLEXIBLE, CONVENIENT, AND EFFICIENT: WEBCHART PUTS YOU IN CONTROL

WebChart helps you manage your medical records by streamlining workflow and putting vital information conveniently at your fingertips whenever and wherever you need it. Scanned data, radiographic images, voice files, and transcribed documents mesh seamlessly using the features described below. The paper chase is over; with WebChart, your practice can reduce administrative headaches and focus on patient care.

OTHER IMPORTANT FEATURES OF WEBCHART:

Browser-based
WebChart is a true browser-based system. Please note that we didn’t say "Windows-based" or "browser-enabled", which mean significantly different things. Our system runs on your database servers or can run on ours in an Application Services Provider (ASP) mode. WebChart does not require the purchase of expensive client and server operating systems licenses, and does not require the purchase of expensive client and server database licenses. Further, since it was created from the ground up to run natively in the most commonly-used Internet browsers (Internet Explorer and Netscape), almost any relatively new computer, including Macintosh computers, can run our system with no additional software added.

Not to belabor the point, but this adds up to significant value. Software isn’t loaded on each user pc, so system administration is simple and is without direct expense. When upgrades are implemented, the individual users access the upgrade through their browser the next time they log in, again, without loading software on the PC. Whole layers of expense and system administration work are removed from the equation when WebChart is chosen over its competitors.

Last, since our system is designed to be distributed making use of the networks that are now common in our industry, it can be used to securely.

Medical-document management
At the heart of every true digital medical-record system should be a very powerful digital document-management system. That’s not true of many of our competitors. WebChart began with the premise that paper is here to stay, and that it will be a long while before the rest of the world goes digital. Thus WebChart can efficiently scan and index the vast amounts of paper that most medical practices still receive, while also facilitating the reception of digital documents sent via HL7 or DICOM interfaces, or using such standards as LOINC for the transmission and reception of digital lab values. Further, WebChart enables you to store and retrieve EOBs and other ancillary documents.

WebChart Tasking and workflow automation
One of the most acclaimed features of WebChart is its workflow-support module. The module is rich with communication and tasking features, allowing for the creation of one-click Fast-Tasks, advanced task-creation and delegation functions, and management-level oversight and reporting tools. Best of all, the notes, tasks, and other documentation created by WebChart’s workflow modules are all tied to the patient record and are included in it.

Online dictation and transcription
WebChart’s dictation and transcription modules invariably receive kudos from our clients. MIE has created a dictation repository that allows input from telephones, PDAs, and Philips SpeechMikesTM. When the user dictates into a PDA or Speechmike, WebChart simultaneously archives the voice file for use by the transcription department and places it in the patient’s chart. If transcription falls a little behind, the voice file is still easily accessible by office staff and physicians-from home, the office, or the hospital. Unlike most dictation systems, WebChart imposes no limits on the number of voice files or days’ worth of dictation that can be kept online. Further, the voice files can be accessed via the telephone, in case your physicians need to review patient dictation and aren’t near a computer.

Upon the voice file’s creation in WebChart, that file is immediately available to transcriptionists. They work from a dictation queue, which allows them to click on the voice file, open the patient’s medical record, and open Microsoft® Word templates directly from WebChart. Transcriptionists love that WebChart auto-inserts patient demographic information or other elements of the medical record, and that they can then upload the digital document directly into WebChart. It’s quick and seamless, and reduces the potential for errors.

e-Sign
Reviewing and signing documents is one of the most labor-intensive tasks clinicians face, yet one of the most important. WebChart’s e-sign capability helps lighten the load. Staff can screen the deluge of paper and electronic documents on behalf of the clinician, so he or she can focus on the most vital information. This feature allows for multiple signatures on documents in cases where nurses and physicians must both acknowledge a document’s content. Whatever the specific application, WebChart is streamlined to allow for fast document review, acceptance or rejection, or quick editing prior to signing. Many of our clinicians access this module securely from home.

WebChart Online DICOM radiographic imaging
WebChart’s DICOM compatibility is indicative of its ability to thrive in both the analog (paper) and digital worlds. DICOM is the industry standard for the creation, packaging, sending, receiving, and decoding of radiographic imaging. WebChart supports multiple modalities in their native resolutions, from CT to MR, from ultrasound to digitized X-ray.

Our clients "push" DICOM images — or even whole studies — to and from radiology specialists, and even use WebChart as their image repository. Our physicians view the digital images in their native resolution while reviewing radiology reports or other documents that support a diagnosis. Storage and handling of hard copy produced from these systems thus becomes obsolete, and patient care improves because doctors can view these materials through WebChart from home, the office, or the hospital.

Importantly, the quality of digital images does not deteriorate over time, unlike that of certain printed images.

Secure access from home or hospital
Many digital medical records companies claim their applications are "browser-based" or "Web-enabled." Those terms typically mean that if you add more hardware, software, administrative burden, and expense, their applications can be "delivered" through a Web browser.

That’s a significant difference from WebChart. WebChart was designed from the ground up as a true Web-based application. WebChart is built using open systems, on database systems that don’t require server purchase or administration, and it can run on an "out-of-the-box" computer without loading software.

Why?

Because WebChart runs completely within Internet Explorer® or Netscape®, through a secure connection from home, the hospital, or the office. That’s important for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that WebChart runs seamlessly on hospital computers without violating their software and/or security policies. WebChart doesn’t require proprietary software to be loaded on hospital computers; our program simply runs through the browser that is standard on all new computers.

WebChart Digital faxing, prescription writing
WebChart includes as standard features such capabilities as prescription-drug support and desktop faxing. Easily and quickly, staff can enter patients’ current medications and allergy information. New prescriptions can be created with similar ease-and then be printed for the patient or faxed directly to his or her pharmacy. (And, importantly, you have the comfort of knowing that our underlying prescription database and interaction checking are performed with systems licensed from First DataBank.)

Desktop faxing of prescriptions or components of the patient medical record are tracked within WebChart. This means that printing and faxing of documents is recorded in WebChart and is available for patient-requested accounting of disclosures under the federal HIPAA guidelines.

WebChart Scheduling
Your practice can choose to schedule all patient appointments directly in WebChart, receive scheduled appointments via an HL7 (Health Level 7) interface to your practice management system, or both. WebChart graphically displays a clinician’s schedule as well as the schedules of your facilities and resources (CT scanner, MR magnet, surgery center). You can display multiple physician schedules simultaneously, click once to view schedules for any day in the future, and perform advanced searches to locate available appointment dates for patients.

High-speed scanning
MIEScanTM augments WebChart by managing the vast quantity of paper documents medical practices receive.

MIEScan is a software package designed to get the maximum efficiency from today’s high-speed production-scanning equipment. MIE can recommend a solution that meets your immediate and future scanning and indexing needs. Scanning documents directly into WebChart saves time and money and helps put an end to the "chart chase".

MIE has also created EOBScanTM and CHECKScanTM, which allow you to scan and index explanation of benefits documents and checks from your patients, thereby eliminating a common source of frustration and costly storage.

Access control
WebChart offers secure, layered access to your clinical records. With certain privileges enabled, it allows access from Internet sources for trusted partners or for doctors working from home or the hospital, as well as for at-home transcriptionists. Within your practice, WebChart lets users view specific components of your patient "charts," depending on each individual users’ needs. Very advanced security features are available, yet administration of security is simple. WebChart also helps your practice stay in compliance with HIPAA guidelines by giving you the ability to limit access to Protected Health Information while helping to ensure its overall security.
