Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE) Translates WebChart EHR in Five Languages for Dow’s Employee Health Centers Around the Globe

Fort Wayne, IN – December 15, 2011 – MIE today announced that its WebChart Enterprise Health system has been translated into five languages for The Dow Chemical Company’s (NYSE: DOW) employee health clinics worldwide. The EHR, now deployed in Dow’s worksites in North America, India, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, South Africa, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, has been translated into English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch helping over 36,000 employees worldwide manage their healthcare information more efficiently and cost effectively. WebChart Enterprise Health EHR and Employee Portal from MIE is one of the first EHR systems to be translated in various languages using uni-code programming.

"Having this advanced capability and HIT infrastructure has been truly transformational for Dow Health Services," said Dr. Catherine Baase, chief health officer at Dow. "It has enabled worldwide standardization, efficiency, broadened metrics and reporting capability and best of all improved ability to serve our patients effectively. The system is a key enabler of our health strategy."

The WebChart Enterprise Health system automatically identifies which employees are due for visits, notifying the employee via email and allowing them to self-schedule their appointment.  Appointment confirmations and reminders are also sent to the employee with a link to all pre-visit information collection and health questionnaires.  If the visit is required for compliance or requires certification, WebChart keeps track of the certification dates and can communicate completion of requirements with the employee as well as their manager.  The multi-language system also allows employees to change their language preferences at any time.

Finally, the system tracks and reports health risk factors and wellness coaching opportunities for the health professional staff employee, in addition to providing lab and preventive health screening results with step-by-step advice on how employees can improve their health.

Over the next several years, WebChart Enterprise Health will be implemented at Dow worksites in other countries such as the UK, Belgium, The Netherlands, Thailand, South China, Switzerland and Spain.

"MIE is committed to developing comprehensive and flexible solutions for our enterprise customers that help them improve service levels for their employees, give them access to worldwide healthcare information and effectively manage costs," said MIE CEO and President Bruce Lisanti.  "Translating the system into different languages enables Dow to quickly and easily interface with their different worksite locations around the world and enhances the quality of care and service for their employees."
