Lakewood Ranch Premier Care Receives $36,000 in Meaningful Use Incentives for Successful Use of Electronic Health Records

Fort Wayne, IN – December 14, 2011 – As many medical professionals continue to struggle with the transition from paper to electronic health records, Lakewood Ranch Premier Care has emerged as one of the leaders in EHR adoption in the state of Florida. Based in Lakewood Ranch, the practice successfully attested to the federal government’s standard of "Meaningful Use" -- actively using an electronic medical record system, rather than paper charts -- and received $36,000 in incentive payment reimbursements.

Lakewood Ranch Premier Care chose Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE), a web-based EHR provider specializing in small and mid-sized physician practices, as the best option for its venture into electronic medical records. Lakewood Ranch Premier Care began implementing MIE’s WebChart system in March 2010 and has now transitioned thousands of paper files to electronic health records. In addition, prescription refill requests and lab and x-ray reports are processed electronically through MIE’s WebChart system, as well as patient demographics, insurance information and appointments.

"We are thrilled that our hard work has paid off. We’ve implemented the necessary workflow changes and have developed encounter forms and processes that supported us in meeting all of the Medicare changes and Meaningful Use requirements for 2011," said Meridian Kristi, the Practice Administrator of Lakewood Ranch Premier Care who led the practice through the implementation and meaningful use process. "We have already started to see benefits from our EHR and over time, we anticipate a strong ROI. However, this transition means more to us than meeting the Meaningful Use guidelines and obtaining stimulus funds. It’s also about using technology to deliver meaningful results for the practice and most importantly, for our patients."

"There was certainly a small transition period while physicians learned how to work with patients and capture information on the computers, but now that we are comfortable with the technology, our communication and follow up with patients has become much more powerful," she continued.

"MIE’s WebChart is a great option for practices who are hesitant to transition to electronic medical records. The implementation team at MIE is knowledgeable and worked very hard to support us through a major learning curve and they were extremely responsive to our needs and questions during that time," Kristi concluded.
