HIMSS15 — Federal Occupational Health Announcement

Chicago, IL  — April 13, 2015 — Federal Occupational Health (FOH), a non-appropriated agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has selected Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE) to implement its comprehensive Enterprise Health information technology solution.

FOH provides occupational health services to more than 1.8 million federal employees representing over 360 federal agency clients. Care is delivered at more than 500 locations in the US and its territories, and includes clinical services, wellness/fitness services, EAP services, and environmental health and safety programs.

"After a comprehensive contracting process that took nearly two years and involved consultation with our agency clients, industry experts, and HHS leadership, we are pleased to begin implementing a health IT solution that enables our agency to adhere to the same kinds of standards we expect hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers to follow,"" said Commander Tomas Bonome, FOH Chief of Staff. "The process included soliciting guidance from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, a sister agency within HHS.

"We included ONC-ACB certification as a selection requirement,"" added Bonome. “The electronic health record and patient portal applications that are included in the Enterprise Health offering are certified, enabling FOH to practice what we preach and demonstrate true leadership in the provision of health services to federal agencies and their employees."

MIE's Enterprise Health solution combines WebChart, an ONC-ACB certified clinical electronic health record; ONC-ACB certified employee and family engagement modules powered by NoMoreClipboard; and occupational health, surveillance and compliance modules on a single, integrated, web-based platform. The Enterprise Health solution will replace several legacy systems, automate paper-based processes, and integrate with medical devices and other applications.

"The Enterprise Health solution will be branded as FedHealth, which will be tightly integrated into the FOH service offering," added Diane Mauk, FedHealth Project Manager. "We are currently working with the Enterprise Health team to configure their base solution for our workflows and client needs, procure and place hardware, and secure the necessary government Approval to Operate. We are also migrating data from several legacy applications and developing a new agency agreement management system. We plan to pilot the solution with selected agencies beginning in mid-summer, with a wide rollout beginning in the fall.

"Deployment of this solution is helping us transform our business and increase the value we offer to our federal agency clients," added Bonome. "We have taken care of the heavy lifting required to select, procure and implement an employer-focused health IT solution, saving our clients time, money and administrative headaches. We are not only making FOH more efficient, we are making it incredibly easy for our clients to do business with us.

"The addition of FOH to our roster is a significant milestone," added Enterprise Health President Matthew Hohman. "The HHS mission is to help provide the building blocks that Americans need to lead healthy, successful lives, and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology within HHS sets national policy for health IT in the United States. The fact that this agency selected our team to deploy certified health IT applications for the federal agencies it serves underscores the importance of our mission to "make a dent — helping employers, healthcare providers and individual consumers make positive steps to improve healthcare outcomes and costs."

"The deployed solution will also incorporate the use of initiatives developed under the guidance of the ONC, including Blue Button, Blue Button Plus and Direct," added NoMoreClipboard president Jeff Donnell, who is leading employee/patient engagement initiatives on the FedHealth project.
